Professor of Architecture and Urban Design

University of Campinas, Brazil

Gabriela Celani

Gabriela Celani teaches courses in the undergraduate program that introduce two important concepts: (1) sustainable urban design (which includes the concepts of high density, 5-minute city, mixed-use, active mobility, etc.), and (2) the use of engineered wood, a new timber construction technology, for urban, compact, mid to high-rise buildings.

Currently, she is part of an interdisciplinary team working on the urban planning of the International Hub for Sustainable Development (HIDS), a high technology and innovation hub in Campinas that will incorporate such concepts, as well as all of the UN 2030 sustainable development agenda goals. The main challenge is to make sustainable urbanism and high technologies compatible in this new district, next to the University of Campinas. Both topics can benefit greatly from new design technologies, such as parametric design, Building Information Modeling and City Information Modeling.
